Technical website building here: Does anybody know how to retrieve an image map from an SQL database?

I need to retrieve an image map, with links and images intact, from my database and display it on my website. I know how to connect to the database and everything using PHP, I just don’t know the exact commands for retrieving and displaying?

The image needs to exist as a file. You would need an image tag in your HTML, src would point to its location, that’s how browsers work. You could store the images and map data as binary data in a database, but you’d have to reconstruct the files before each request.

Last I heard, Yahoo! Answers had no plans to add new categories. However, it doesn’t hurt to suggest your idea! You can do that on the Y!A suggestion board:

Y!A really does NEED to rethink the current categories. Many (especially in ‘Travel’) are rarely, if ever used, or have been taken over as ‘chat rooms’ by groups of users. Lots of us have great ideas for new sections, and I do wish Yahoo! Answers would listen and give us what we WANT rather than what Y!A wants us to have!

As an asian living in the US, sometimes I wish there were a website that existed to meet other asians living near me. Facebook is too big and general and seems more geared towards communicating with people you already know, not new people, and certainly not specific demographic.

Is there such a site or if there were, would any asians here use it?

Anyone here use Living Social books website to keep track of books you have read and want to read? I use it almost daily and the past two days it has been shut down to “maintenance” as their disclaimer said. Now, it has no disclaimer and acts as if the website never existed. Anyone use this site? Any idea when it will be back up and running?

I cant log onto it either. Separate nor through facebook which was how I usually used it. Movies, and video games parts are also gone. I wonder what is up….

@rtfm – Sometimes the manual lacks the detail required to fully explain how it really works.

@Dakota – I believe it goes along the lines of:

You place a bid on an item. If you place the last bid you pay that price to get the item.

However, here’s what they don’t clearly detail in their ‘Wondering How It Works’ section. You have to purchase bids which you use in an auction. If you lose the auction, you have also lost the bids you used during the auction.

For example, say a bid costs 60 cents to purchase and, without any discounts, 100 bids cost $60.

In an auction, the price goes up by 2 cents on every bid. Say, for arguments sake, an auction finishes at $50, and you used up 50 bids. Then you spent $30 (50 bids at 60 cents a bid) on the auction.

If you were the last bid, then you get to purchase the item for $50. The total the item has cost you will be $80 ($50 final auction price + $30 worth of bids).

However, if you didn’t get the last bid, then you’ve wasted $30 on getting nothing.

And who wins every time? The auction winner and BidHere.com – for the example above, they receive $50 + $1500. Where does this $1500 come from? If every bid costs 60 cents and increases the auction price by 2 cents, then $50 worth of 2 cent bids = 2500 bids. And at 60 cents a bid, 2500 x 60 cents = $1500.

So if the item was a $500 games console, the winner saves $420, BidHere pockets just over a grand, and everyone else who placed a bid loses out.
