What percentage of truth do websites run by cults about their cults contain?

Take the Mormon cult’s websites; what percentage of the truth about Mormons is contained on their own websites? Does it contain truth like their “prophet” being a renowned treasure hunting con artist before making up Mormonism? Does it contain truth about why the Mormons stopped practicing polygamy and stopped having racist dogma? If you want to learn the truth about cults, is it advisable to read information on their own websites?

First of all, the LDS Church is NOT a cult. Go research the Children of God and then come back and tell me I belong to a cult. You CANNOT put The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Children of God in the same category! It’s beyond disgraceful to assert that the LDS Church is a cult, like the Children of God when the Children of God promotes child molestation and sexual promiscuity, when the LDS Church advocates NOTHING but Christlike service, charity, and virtue. Secondly, if you want to learn about any organization, the best thing to do is to investigate the organization itself. To learn about Mormonism by reading anti-Mormon websites is like reading about Al Qaeda to learn about America, or reading Mein Kampf to learn about Judaism, or reading white supremacy sites to learn about black history.

  1. They advertise their religion on their own websites. Of course, they lie to make their religion look good.

The book of Mormon itself says there will raise up a church that is abominable, above all other churches. The Mormons who believe the book do not realize the Mormon church is that church most abominable. They believe it is the Catholic but the Bible talks about the Catholic church.

It’s prudent to fact check anything you read on the internet (or off it, for that matter).

    2. Not a made up belief.

Okay well, the "treasure" hunter’s name is Joseph Smith and he dug up plates from Hill Cumorah, Upstate NY. Joseph Smith translated the plates into the Book of Mormon to what we have today. The original language of the book was Reformed Egyptian, Joseph Smith was a boy only 14 years old, he must have had a lot of free time on his hands and quite an imagination to create such a book, if you are disproving it. It comes down to the bare fact – It is either a true book or it is not? Factual proof is that he presented a piece of the reformed Egyptian to a professor at a university with the correct translation and the professor claimed it to be completely accurate, it is doubtful for a 14 year old in the 1800s to know Reformed Egyptian, considering few people know of it.

I am not here to preach but only give some background since your question shows no basis of knowledge.
It is not a cult, we are not brainwashed and I am sure that I am not participating in some crazy hoax. I am seventeen years old, I make mistakes everyday and I have made some certainly big ones but through the atonement that the Lord has set in place for us- I can be made clean because of the Lord’s mercy so I guess you can see all the negative things of the gospel like polygamy but that was in our past, shouldn’t the past remain the past? Every religion has some wrong turns and its time society looks past that.

It is certainly advisable, if you would like to know more information. Videos on the Mormon Channel on Youtube, show the fundamental beliefs of the church summed up. I can assure you that I am no crazy and out there religious freak, considering the judging nature your question demonstrates, I am just trying to clear up the misconceptions you have.

  8. LDS.Mormon.org, LDS.org, and are very bias.
Nothing very controversial nor negative is there.
Well according to them, now, I have found some talks and articles that are quite offensive to most.
They have many apologetic sites to fumble through and ramble OFF a so called "explanation" to appease ponderers. (when no real answer is ever given!)

But the crazy, hateful, racist quotes that LDS leaders HAVE stated and taught over the pulpit in the past are "poof" gone from PRO sites.
The teaching manuals that were hateful or teaching false doctrine are "poof" gone. Its like they EDIT it out to make the LDS seem mainstream and normal. (we’ve never been weird)

WHY does LDS.org or mormon.org NOT discuss the violent or disturbing, parts taken out of the temple endowment? Why do they not tell about teaching "blood atonement?"
    Why don’t they EXPLAIN?
They have to HIRE OTHERS to do the Dirty work?

A LDS church ran site Josephsmith.org mentions NOTHING about Smith’s polygamy. If he was the so called man to be chosen form God to bring back polygamy to the Earth, you think they would tell about his wives. :)
NOTE: Joseph Smith had at least 33 wives while he was alive. Many more were sealed to him after his death. 11 of these wives were sealed to living men. (Smith was alive also) 13 of the wives testified in court to having sexual relations with Joseph Smith. A third of the wives were ages 14 to 20 years old. (Smith was 36 to 38) He had a few sister DUOS as wives, and a mother daughter duo. Smith would ask his friends, for their wives and young daughters to take as his wives. He said this was Gods chosen way, and acceptable for Heaven.

The LDS church teaches milk before meat, although most members, and converts, NEVER get "ALL" the meat!

  10. they contain nothing but the truth, at least by their point of view, but they definantly do not contain the whole truth.

  11. When I was a Mormon, I assumed that our critics were lying and our apologists and leaders were truthful. Wow did I find out the opposite was true!

Question the integrity of someone who’s highest goal is to keep you faithful to a set of ideas. Liars! Seriously, LDS leaders, historians, and apologists act in shameful ways. Their websites don’t hestitate in the least to either leave out compelling evidence or make it up.

Take a 360 degree walk around your religion, club or organizations. See it from all sides before you jump into it. You might find its critics are actually right.

It also says that Adam and Eve had no blood in them Unit they ate the fruit…even I was never taught this in UT, but it was interesting to find.
In one talk it says the gold plates are reformed Eqytpian and another talk the plates are reformed Hebrew, but the indians are now Asians. LDS.ORG is all confused.
